English Teaching Assistants

The Anexa has been fortunate enough to host English Teaching Assistants for many years. These ETA's are native speakers of English from various English speaking countries. They assist the full-time staff by leading classes, assisting with the English Department's annual play, teaching lessons on cultural themes, and in general by supporting and encouraging the use of English in and out of the classroom.

"Before coming to Mexico to teach at the ESANS, I had never traveled to Mexico. So far, the experience has been truly amazing. I find the students are excited to learn about my culture and language. They are equally delighted to teach me Spanish and about Mexican culture.
I was born in Southern California, and from a young age was exposed to Mexican culture within the United States. During high school I worked with several children who immigrated from Mexico. While completing my B.A. in Spanish at Truman State University, I studied Mexican literature & history. Because of all of my experiences with Mexican culture, I decided I wanted the opportunity to really live in the culture and experience it for myself.

British Consul ETA 2011-2012

"My name is Anna and I was an English Language Assistant from 2010-2011. The Anexa was a wonderful school to spend my first year in Mexico and I am grateful for the experience of working with some extremely dedicated teachers and enthusiastic students. One of my most memorable experiences was helping with the production of “The Phantom of the opera”. It was an honour to be a part of this success which really reflected all the hard work of the teachers and students in the English department.
I am originally from the South of England and came to Mexico after completing my B.A. in European languages. My interest in Mexico stems from my time at University where I had the chance to study Mexican literature and cultural studies as well as taking an active role in the Mexican society. I have remained in Mexico City since completing my assistantship and teach English at an International school."

Georgina Forster

British Consul ETA 2010-2011

My year at the Anexa was one of the best and most rewarding highlights of my time in Mexico. I feel very lucky to have been part of such a great school and to have worked with such wonderful teachers and students. From the beginning, I felt like part of the Anexa family and I hope my students enjoyed learning about British culture and language as much as I enjoyed sharing it! Some of my favourite moments include the World Cup Country project, the London tube project, and of course the incredible performance of Grease! J

I completed my B.A. in European Studies and Languages at the University of Manchester which is where I first became interested in Mexico. I spent a year in Zacatecas before moving to Mexico City, and after my assistantship at the Anexa finished, I didn’t want to go home! I am still in D.F. and currently working as an editor of primary and secondary level English language text books. Mexico is a fascinating country and I am still enjoying learning about and experiencing the Mexican culture.
